Aiming, Headshots and Reloading

Last checked · Checked against the development build

Do headshots do more damage in Stillskin Forest?

Yes. A headshot doubles a single bullet's damage (a Pistol hit goes from 34 to 68) and multiplies each shotgun pellet by 1.4. Headshots show a gold hitmarker and damage number. Hold right mouse to aim, which tightens your spread and slows you to 12 studs per second.

Aiming

  • Right mouse (L2 on controller) to aim. The camera pulls in and your spread tightens.
  • Your character turns to face whatever you shoot at, even behind you.
  • V switches to first person; aiming there brings the sights to your eye line.
  • Aim sway is gentle when rested and larger when you're winded.
  • On controller and touch only, aiming applies a gentle pull toward targets within 7°.
  • A blocked-muzzle marker appears if a wall is in front of the barrel.

Staggers

Infected stagger from headshots, melee hits, shotgun blasts, or any hit dealing 30% or more of their health, then can't be staggered again for 1.1 seconds. A Brute only staggers from a headshot of 50 damage or more.

Reloading

Press R. An empty magazine reloads automatically; switching weapons cancels the reload. The Pistol reloads in 1.6 s and the Shotgun in 2.4 s. See Ammunition.
